Discover Filitosa

Filitosa is a mecca of Corsican prehistory, just 17 kilometers from our l’Esplanade campsite in Olmeto. Take a trip back in time to the first men of Corsica.

Filitosa is a megalithic site in the heart of a wild, unspoilt natural park, with a collection of menhirs dating back to the island’s earliest settlements. Discover Filitosa, one of Corsica’s most important archaeological sites. It is located in the commune of Sollacaro in south-west Corsica, on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Valinco.
Revealed in 1946, the site is classified as a “historic monument” and traces 8,000 years of human history. It was discovered by Charles Antoine Cesari, a horse breeder, while out for a walk.
The megalithic site of Filitosa is a collection of archaeological remains in Corsica uncovering human activity between the 6ᵉ millennium BC and Roman times.

Visit to the Fitilosa site

The Filitosa site is open to visitors all year round, with opening times varying from day to day. There are many megalithic monuments in human form. Its granite menhirs bear witness to an important past and are reminiscent of sites such as Stonehenge and Easter Island.

Visit the archaeological museum opening in 2021 to discover the daily life and beliefs of the first Corsicans.
